August 29th, 2015 Santa Monica

On August 29th celebrities, young talent and their parents gathered outside the Morgan-Wixson Theatre, Santa Monica where photographers took pictures of the guests invited to celebrate the 2nd Annual Miss West Coast. Over 400 attendees and 90 girls competed for the title of Miss West Coast this year.

The actors John Savage and Blanca Blanco as well as fitness model William Romeo and Hollywood legend Bobbie Chance were noticed on the red carpet that day. This reporter talked to the previous winner, Victoria Johnson, Miss West Coast USA 2015, about her experience: “I was extremely nervous getting the title but I was able to accomplish so much during the year working with so many different charities and to really grow as a person. When I won I started crying but the fact that I was able to get this title is something I am proud of”. She revealed she started pageants four years ago and now, being only 19 years old, she feels strong and confident like never before. Her father and grandmother are her biggest support. She personally believes confidence is something a contestant needs to show up during a pageant. We also asked one of the judges, “Viva Glam” magazine editor Katarina Van Derham, about her love to pageants since she has been in entertainment industry for a decade as a model, actress and beauty specialist: “What I like about pageants here, in America, is philanthropy. It is not just about beauty but about the power of beauty and how one can utilize it. I really like philanthropy and charity that come along with pageants. I am a tough judge, I expect contestants to have an opinion. I always look for someone who has an opinion and very open minded”.

Other judges included Melissa Ann Luiso, Miss New York America & Autism Speaks Advocate; celebrity photographer Maurice Rinaldi, actor and model William Romeo, actress Cherie Thibodeaux, Director of Wunder Life Robert Monaghan, legendary Bobby Chance (Beach Party movies), talent agent Sabrina Chu-Hurd, Babak Sanei (Santee Beauty Center & Hollywood Stars), Capital Markets Investor Rod Douglas, and Dr. Davis Daneshrad. The Founder and Director of Miss West Coast Pageant Tara Rice was the biggest inspiration for all the participants that night. As she says, ““I love inspiring teens and young women who participate in my pageant productions to become young leaders and more involved in their communities. My goal is to teach the girls how to reach out to nonprofit organizations and become advocates for organizations. My titleholders volunteer and support Operation Blankets of Love and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness just to name a few.” Miss South Bay USA 2015 Alison Kim, Miss South Bay Teen USA 2015 Masha Shadchina, Victoria Johnson (Miss West Coast Teen USA 2015) and actor/model Aiden Simko served as hosts during the event.
